opinions, please!

So, there's a little snafu in getting my new blog design up and running. I was waiting to open my Etsy shop until everything was "perfect" -- but at this point, that would mean pushing back my grand opening indefinitely.

I'm the kind of person who wants every last duck in a row before I start any new venture, so the idea of beginning this new little business of mine before the virtual walls of my shop are painted and the sign outside is properly hung makes me feel really anxious.

At the same time, I'm a big procrastinator -- and the longer I wait, the longer I'm going to wait.

What do you guys think? Should I just go for it, or should I hold off until I have it all exactly how I want it?

(p.s. in the mean time, I have to come up with a shop banner -- any thoughts on the ones I've messed around with here?)

  1. I love the second and last banner options. As for your shop, I'd wait until everything is just the way you like it before your big opening. This way you can feel comfortable and confident when it's up. I know what you mean about the procrastination, though, so try to give yourself a drop dead deadline and honor it. Good luck!

  2. I love the second and last one the best in my opinion. and I agree with baby makes four wait until everything is just how you'd like it to be!

    Good luck!!

  3. The second one is my fave... and I say go with whatever feels right to you. If you're stressed about something not being right, it will making everything stressful, and it's supposed to be a fun hobby of yours!!

  4. If I waited until everything was "just right" before trying to have a baby I would have NEVER gotten to be a mama. Sometimes you have to leap! I would say set a goal of a certain date and work on what you can before then. I always work better with a deadline, myself. Then you could also build anticipation for all of us readers with a grand opening countdown on your page!

    1. Margaux, a countdown sounds fun -- I didn't even think of that! And totally agree with you about the "when to have a baby" thing; some day I'll have to post about our family planning decisions :)

  5. Just do it! It will be one more thing to check off your list. And, I really like the first one:)

  6. I really like the 3rd banner... seems so sweet and feels like Spring to me!

As far as opening your shop, I think you should wait until it's just perfect. But maybe lower your idea of "perfect" or you may never reach it. I'm a perfectionist, and if motherhood has taught me anything so far, it's that perfection ain't what it used to be! I've had to learn to let go of things that would have previously driven me crazy to let other things take priority. So if opening your shop at all is more important than how it looks when it opens, maybe that's the right step for you. Just do what feels right.

  7. I like the last one, but it's great that you have so many options so you can rotate them and keep the shop feeling fresh. I'm with the others - definitely go for it! Once you get the opening out of the way you'll feel less pressure (or at least I would) and it would be more "fun" stocking, creating, and curating.

  8. I must admit. I'm getting a bit impatient for the shop opening. I'm definitely looking forward to checking out all of your items. I totally hear you about making sure everything is just right. I'm a serious procrastinator for that reason. I really like Megan's idea-- it might be best to just get it out of the way so you feel less pressure. I also think it's good that you have so many options for banners. Rotating them is a great idea.

  9. I say go for it. Let's be honest - it's never going to be "perfectly perfect" right? And you will continue to tweak your design as your shop grows. So if you're ready for business, then I say do it!

Banners: I like the second and fourth options, where LARKING is pasted over a darker image so the store name really pops. Good luck!
