letting go.

I got really sad about this table this morning.

It's not much to look at - just a little retro kitchen table that barely fits two people when fully extended. But it was the only table in my first (and only solo) apartment after college. A table where I sat to eat meals I had cooked for myself. A table that served as my desk and crafting studio. A hiding place for love notes (in that cute little drawer). A memory of a past life, I guess.

It feels good to let go of things I don't need anymore as we finalize the sale of our old house and start working on making our new one feel like home. But it's funny how attached we get to things, isn't it?

Goodbye, little table. Enjoy your new home - I hope your new owners leave little love notes to each other inside your drawer, too.

  1. You should print out this post, fold it up, put it in an envelope, turn that little table upside down and tape it to the underside. A little time capsule of sorts. The next owners will then have a little back story to add to their own.

  3. It's so tough for me to get rid of things that have a story. I'm getting better, though. It's much easier when you tell yourself that somebody else may love it as much as you did.

  4. With our house on the market, I have all of these romantic fantasies about another young family buying it and enjoying it just as much as we have. Then our first offer was from a single guy and I got a huge reality check. I'm pretty good about letting things go but I wasn't ready for that!

Congrats on finalizing things with the house :) Hopefully we will be doing the same in a few months.
