baby classics.

I'm a total Jane Austen nut -- as you know -- and I have incredibly fond memories of the first time I read Pride and Prejudice (my mom bought me a copy in 8th grade -- probably didn't understand the whole thing, but still loved it!) and watched the mini-series (on VHS from the library with my mom that next summer).  So the thought of getting to introduce my daughter to Elizabeth and Darcy and Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Mr. Collins makes me pretty excited. And now I'm going to get to do it so much earlier than I thought!

Have you heard about these BabyLit Board Books? They are cute little versions of classic titles like Romeo and Juliet, P & P, Alice in Wonderland, and (coming soon) Jane Eyre with basic concepts for kids like numbers (2 rich gentlemen, 4 marriage proposals, 5 sisters in Pride and Prejudice) and colors (purple bottle, orange cat in Alice). Suzanne Taylor, the editor of the series, hints (in a Publishers Weekly interview) that there are more titles in the works: "Let me just say that we're looking at orphans, vampires, and an interesting aristocracy." Can't wait!

  6. Oh my GOSH, I MUST have these! Pride & Prejudice is my all-time favorite, I read it for the first time when I was 15, and then subsequently fell in looooove with Colin Firth from the BBC series!
